Second Grade Students Used Inquiry to Explore Phyto- and Zooplankton and their role in the Marine Food Chain!
First, students were shown a mystery picture. In teams, students came up with questions to test their guesses for the picture. By recording yes/no answers, students refined their questions to determine their final hypotheses. Can you guess the mystery picture based on the clues?
Next, students participated in a food chain simulation to determine the role of plankton in the marine food chain.
To further our skills in asking questions, students were asked to record something that they were wondering about plankton. We grouped the questions into overarching categories and broke into research groups according to our interests. Students were responsible for presenting the information they found to the class.
