2nd Graders Experience Early Exploration!

Exploring the unknown can be confusing, scary, and exciting! With the help of a few wonderful parents, students were taken on a small-group experience to simulate the Pilgrims' challenges in navigation and early mapping efforts.

SHOUT OUT THANK YOU: Ms. Grizzard, Ms. Nikam, and Mr. Strougo

The Pilgrims originally planned to land in Virginia, hoping to establish themselves close to Jamestown. However, a storm blew them off course; the morning of landing was also riddled with fog. Students were blind-folded and led around the building to experience these obstacles. They "landed" in a spot other than the TAG room, where they were expecting to go!

After reaching their destined locations, students were charged with the task of creating a map to represent their locations. As the students found out, this can be tricky when you're a little disoriented! We certainly challenged our nonverbal/spatial skills!
